Try giving like this from now on
I have a philosophy on giving. As a core value, I want to be generous, however, I try, where possible, to do it in silence.
Getting thanks or praise for a nice thing reduces its impact. Think about it:
How many people perform nice gestures for loved ones, anonymously?
How many donate to charity with telling others they did it?
How many buy their friend a gift and expect to be tagged on social media because of it?
I believe if you give, only to accept praise or publicity for your gesture then you aren’t giving – you’re taking.
Not collecting praise for a kind gesture is a test of ego… Or the lack thereof.
If you can give without ownership, you’ll be doing it for the sake of others and not for your own good.
Showing restraint and anonymity is showing purity of intent. You’re giving because you want to, not because you need to signal to others that you’re the type of person that gives.
