To answer your question, are you familiar with Schrödinger's cat? Until the box is open, you don't know if the cat is alive or not (don't worry, it's hypothetical and doesn't involve a real cat)... Basically an egg is an egg, but until it's hatched, you don't know if it's a Chicken or not. The definition of Chicken is only able to be used once the egg is revealed - at that point it's not an egg anymore. Does that make sense? :)
