Helping demystify the decision of higher education
Half of all school leavers participate in higher education, according to the Department Of Education. But is it worth it?
My question for whether or not you should go to University is…
“Can you only achieve that career with a degree-level education?”
I currently work in Marketing, but my degree is in Multimedia. The truth is that the job I have now, even before having my own company, didn’t require a university degree at all… So it’s not made me a more attractive candidate to my past employers.
The benefit of university then, is not to show a potential employer what you’ve learned — but that you’re capable of learning.
As degrees are devalued in society through abundance and tuition fees reach all new highs, avoiding university is a fantastic option for those who don’t need degrees.
The time spent in education is valuable time away from gaining debt-free, on-the-job experience.
If there are paid apprenticeships, work-placements or clear career paths internally with a great company — it’s a much faster, more profitable direction to avoid higher education altogether.
