What's the Least Amount of Money You Could save and Still Afford to Retire On?
Statistically speaking, this is how little you can set aside
My friend gave me an interesting snippet last weekend.
It will only take about 333 Solana tokens, appreciating to $3,000 each by 2030 — to make you a millionaire.
That’s your retirement sorted, right? But it’s a risky asset and it’s not for everyone.
It got me thinking. What’s the absolute least you could invest now, in traditional stocks— and still afford to retire with?
UK State Pensions
State pensions currently pay £9,628 per year.
Things to know first:
Retirement age is now 67 years old.
Life expectancy in the UK is 81 years old.
You need 35 years of National Insurance payments to unlock your full state pension.
Doing the Math…
If you live to the average UK life expectancy of 81, the government will pay you £134,792 state pension in total.
To almost match that figure you’d need to:
Start with £3.92 ($5)
Invest £63 ($80) per month
Let it compound for 35 years at a modest 8% annually.
The Answer
That means the least you could invest now to be able to retire with would be £26,358 ($33,605) in total.
