It’s the way they’re generated
Do you trust all of the statistics you hear?
1.1 billion people are deficient in zinc
70% of us don’t have savings
42% of marriages in England and Wales end in divorce.
The reason it’s wrong to blindly trust all statistics is that many are generated by sample studies.
Usually, sample answers are taken and extrapolated across the size of the population, the problem being that not all of us live in perfect equality.
There are variations in everything, including:
Proximity
Population density
Income
Age
Genetic makeup
Height
Weight, etc
Not to mention the accuracy of all data collected is dependent on whether or not the person answering the question gave the truth.
“How many units of alcohol do you consume per week?”
I’m not sure most people if asked by a stranger or government body, would be so honest.
With that said it’s definitely important to consider the factors and variations in all data you hear or read. Statistically speaking, even if true for others, it may not be true for you.
